Hi,

no - it doesn't make any difference it seems. I've been doing some research=
on this issue actually & whilst most hand held's will have the same kind o=
f issue - all be it at a low level, it would seem that this noise from the =
displays enters the signal not via the mics - by that I mean that you'd get=
it even if you had no mics plugged in or turned on. I assume its related t=
o the fact that these are all small units with the electronics close to eac=
h other & without costly isolation / shielding.

With this particular issue in mind perhaps folks could carry out a simple t=
est:

plug in some external mics anyway, whack the gain & sensitivity as high as =
poss without feedback & record for 30 seconds. (high gain etc only to make=
it easier to hear this low level electronic debris) & then report back.

so far it appears to happen on (inc non-hand held recorders):

Roland R-26
Roland R-44
Tascam DR-660

but not on:

Korg MR2
Sound Devices 7 series recorders (of course)

ta,

Jez

3, 1 unconnected - plug that in and wiggle it around in all of the R44's so=
ckets. If you notice any noise then I would suspect the sockets are worn or=
have contact issues. Is the R44 brand new? if not then is its history know=
n? If its new then I would suggest sending it back and trying the replaceme=
nt with the DPA's. If the outcome is the same your out of luck and the magi=
c between DPA and Roland isn't going to happen.
