It's a drag, but the fact is, you wouldn't want to risk running an
external drive on bus power, if that battery dropped below the
voltage required, it'd be a mess, as the drive would crash while
writing, and it could be ugly. So I bet it IS possible, but they're
saying it isn't, just as a precaution.
