The work really begins once you have your equipment. Regardless of
choice the main controllable factor in the quality of your recordings
will be you, so, get out and record lots. And examine what you get
carefully for what it can teach you. At first the really nice recordings
will seem rare, but as you gain experience you will find that the
proportion of good recordings improves greatly. This is very much a
learned hobby, you can't buy your way to good recordings.
And whatever you buy, don't be surprised if you find yourself hankering
after something better, or at least different. This can be a real wallet
drainer at times.
In equipment, don't skimp on your mics. The finest spec'd recorder in
the world won't produce that quality unless the mic first produces it.
