If you keep the spacing between the capsules, and the angle, according to O=
RTF specs, it will work. You could fix the capsules on a =BC inch wide stri=
p of wood and get going? (EM 172s are cardioid, right? ORTF is only for ca=
rdioid microphones.

Hi All,

I am very new to recording so forgive me if this is old territory or there =
is a fundamental flaw, but has anyone tried a mini ORTF setup using EM172 c=
apsules? =A0Rudimentary drawing at link below:

I would think it would be compact and portable and could be mounted on a ta=
bletop style tripod or a a stake of some kind. =A0Interested to hear though=
ts on this, be gentle I=92m a newbie ;-P

Best,

Jim

Hello Klas & Anthor,

My website (www.caperteebirder.com) still has the comparison of DIY SASS wi=
th Telinga SSM. =A0Both rigs give a good stereo image, the SASS has a bit w=
ider image. =A0The SSM would certainly fit more easily into a suitcase for =
travelling, than the SASS.

I am progressively updating my website with new links to SoundCloud tracks,=
and I've just updated the SSM-SASS page. =A0I have not been able to access=
SoundCloud for some years due to incredibly slow internet. =A0New internet=
dish has speeded me up again so I can now do more audio stuff online :-)

Anthor, I found the SSM windshields would need extra shielding if there was=
a lot of wind, a home made cage of some sort might fix that. =A0The SSM ri=
g uses minijacks.

One test I don't think I've ever done is to compare "tree-ears" to SASS or =
SSM. =A0I think the latter two would be more directional and give a little =
more boost to the signal.

Vicky has (had?) a nice site comparing the SASS vs the Telinga SSM. I am=A0
going to make some ten pairs of them and they are easier to travel with.
