The ME66 generates more self-noise when using the battery in the K6 handle = to provide power. Self-noise is lower when using phantom power from a prea= mp or recorder. Here's one example, from forum member Gianni Pavan. Scroll down to close t= o the bottom of the page http://www-3.unipv.it/cibra/res_techtest_uk.html Here's another discussion of the phenomenon by Phil Tyler and other members= of the forum. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/naturerecordists/message/27403 The most portable solution with XLR input, low EIN, and 48V phantom power i= s the Olympus LS-100 ($395). Somewhat less expensive, but with higher EIN, is the Tascam DR-100MkII ($31= 5). Be sure you're buying the MkII version, not the original DR-100. --oryoki |
