Hi Peter,

For that application, the TASCAM DR-05 would probably be fine. It's preamp 
noise floor is about the same as that of the ME66, which means that the overall 
system noise floor will be 3 dB higher than the microphone noise.

You might however be disappinted by the poor built quality of the DR-05 - it 
feels a bit like junk compared to the SONY PCM M10 or the Olympus recorders.
