Continuing this thread, I've now realised the Tascam DR-05 has omni built in mics. It would be nice to be able to use it for bird id without the shotgun at times, so I'm dropping the idea. That leaves the LS-7 and Zoom H2 as the other low cost candidates with pre-record buffer. Can anyone please confirm that both these have cardioid mics?
