Now that I'm using my Sony PCM-M10 extensively with my SASS array, I'm feeling
the need for a second recorder to use with my ME66/K6.
The original idea was to swap the M10 between the two as necessary, but now I'm
leaving it with the array recording for hours at a time, and wandering around
nearby with an ME66 but no recorder. I'd like to be able to record individual
species with it.
I'd be happy with another M10, but don't want to spend that much. I'd really
like something with a pre-record buffer, and the cheapest candidate I can find
is the DR-05 at about $100.
I know it's noisier than the M10. Given that it will only be used with the
ME66/K6, will the sound quality be acceptable for bird species recordings? Does
anyone know of any other specific problems with the DR-05 I should know about?
The digital level control is ok for my purposes.
How directional are its internal mics? It might be handy to be able to use it
by itself at times.
The next cheapest other candidates I can find are:
DR-07, 07MKII, 08
Olympus LS-7
Zoom H2, H2N
- all significantly more expensive. Are there any other cheap ones with
pre-record?
