But Jason, there is (free) anti-virus software for 10.4. For example <http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition/system-requirements.aspx> OS 10.8 will require a new machine, which is fair enough if you have the financial capacity. But why not keep an older system running for as long as possible? I quite understand the comment Vicki made that "Seems if you don't keep up with upgrades, even if your computer is working perfectly, some functions will be withdrawn by the forces 'out there'". I've been thinking about upgrading from 10.4 too, but have to admit that this is in part due to forces 'in here'. In other words, in capitalist societies consumerism is equated with virtue. To return to Vicki's question, as John Tudor commented, an older version of Firefox can be downloaded, and it will certainly run on OS Message: 10. Subject: 4. |

Previous by Date: | 4 is no longer supported by Apple for virus or malware protection updates. 10.4 will not protect your computer from the most recent virus. The oldest version they are still supporting with security updates is 10.6. When 10.8 comes out this summer 10.6 will no longer be supported as Apple only goes back one OS. Best to upgrade as soon as you finish your project so you system is secure., Unknown |
