<<Optical digital I/O would seem quite extraneous if you have recordings on a memory card; curious why's that an issue for you Scott, do you use the optical in and use your deck as a "bit bucket"?>> Aaron, Yes, the digital output portion is irrelevant since I use the USB transfer function, but a SPDIF input is valuable for me in order to bypass the weakest link in all these devices, i.e. the mics, analog input electronics & A to D converter. Although I have to say, in practical applications, the portability of the unit trumps the added gear required for improved audio in about 99% of the cases when I'm out recording ambience.
