>From photos and the video, here's a list of features found in the M10 which
>are different from the D50:
-Records MP3 as well as WAV
-Uses micro SDHC as well as Sony's Memory Stick Micro flash cards. Micro SDHC
is the same size used in many cell phones. It's also
used in the Yamaha Pocketrak CX. While it's hard to hold the micro SDHC cards,
they proved to be more durable than I expected when I used them with the
Pocketrak CX.
-Built-in speaker, located on the back.
-Narrower case. This will be easier to hold in one hand and easier to operate
with the thumb while being held, like a cell phone.
-One dial controls both record and playback volume. Like the D50, there is no
way to adjust the level of one channel at a time.
The M10 may be missing important features of the D50, such as:
-optical digital input and output
-switches to control limiter, low cut filter, mic attenuation
-uses 2 instead of 4 AA cells, so recording time will be shorter
-mics fixed in place at 120 degree angle, pointing away from each other
The MSRP for the D50 is $599, and the typical street price is $450. that's 25%
less. A few weeks after the M10 is introduced, as Christmas sales move into
high gear, I expect the street price of the M10 to fall from $399 to close to
$300.
The Edirol R-09HR, the M10's natural competitor, also has a street price of
$300.
