Thanks for the link Rob, there are a lot of reviews and thoughts.
I do have a 722 as well and I have linked the 744 to it, it is indeed
"pretty"
I have a lot of reading to do :-)
6 Channels!!! I plan to visit a Prairie Chicken Lek with Kevin Colver and
John Neville this week in Nebraska, it hasn't escaped my mind but I don't
want to swamp the area with cables for the poor buggers to trip over with
their performances :-)
I will set up a 4 channel system, I was going to try two back-to-back MS
systems, I've never tried this before only two back-to-back SASS with 4
mkh-20's.
Should be good as long as we have chickens :-)

Hi Martyn--
SD says its made for use with the 744T so I don't expect you'd find
the 442's pres a compromise.
Sorry, I haven't used one. For field use issues, one can stroll
through the rec arts list comments. They are mostly favorable:

Another thought is you could get a 722 for about the same price and
bulk and have four matching preamps between the two units and then
have another 2 channels for back-up or a 6 channel recorder when
needed. The cable orientation between 722 and 744 units might be less
"painful" too. I know what you mean about simplicity and uniformity
in the field, but the 722's and 744's gain knobs would line-up
"pretty." Two very short, mini-xlr cables made with thin lavaliere
cabling between the 722 to the 744 is hardly noticeable. I've used
the school's 722 for this purpose; the balanced line to balance line
connections/circuits are very clean. Rob D.
