I have listened to Romilly's recordings and I can't hear any other reason
for the "tin-can sound" than that the two omnis were placed in a very
unlucky situation, where out of phase reflections ruined it all.
I still think I have on a white paper at my site, something about that "a
microphone can only "hear" what is happening at the membrane.
NOT something far away or "as it sounds" for a pair of human ears close by.
Omnis are not made for music recordings, unless very special and well known=
conditions.
The MKH mic's need more current than most other phantom powered mic's, and=
it makes me pissed if Edirol and others cannot supply a "decent" phantom
power. What happens if I come up with a really good Telinga design, running=
perfectly on phantom power, but not with a Edirol or whatever new design?
I think I have had enough trouble finding out a special design of the
EM23's, just because Sony HiMD's provide too low Plug In Power current.
But I can hardly believe that a too low phantom power would cause the
effect heard on Romilly's recordings.
But who knows for sure?
Klas.
