Yes, it is always a challenge to perform an objective comparison. I
connected the three recorders one after another to the K6/ME66
microphone in my office. Unfortunately there is always a varying
level of distant traffic/city noise.

You are also correct that the recorders have different bass roll-off
responses. The SD722 has the lowest roll-off frequency (about 2 Hz),
which is one of the reasons why it picked up so mucgh rumble.

The potential preamplifier noise should be equally distributed
across the entire frequency range. So, you should concentrate on the
high frequency noise components (above 2 kHz).

Because the recorders have different sensitivities (maximum gain
settings), I tried to normalize the levels to the ticking clock.
This procedure might have introduced some uncertainty (either over-
or underestimation of the noise levels).
