Klas, I can't give you any proof, and it may well be that I'm wrong. I
don't do much minidisc recording anymore, and this is only what I've
heard from some people who do.
I was always pretty happy with my little Sharp minidisc. But when I
refer to 'noise' on a minidisc, you could be right, it might not be
preamp noise, it could be all mic noise, and maybe that's affected
somehow by the plug-in-power not energizing the mics enough? I'm not
sure.
I guess I always attributed at least part of that to consumer level
preamps in the unit itself. And again, I found my little Sharp 722 MD
and the Audio Technica lavs to work pretty well. But they're by now
means 'quiet'. They're acceptable, and I love them for what they do,
but either the mics or the MD definitely have some noise.
But I will retract the statement below, because I admit I have done
absolutely no tests to measure MD or HiMD preamp noise.
