Transfering via SPDIF, TOSlink, ADAT / Lightpipe, are all to my knowledge by definition real-time transfer methods. (One for the experts -- there might be an exception if you've used two tracks to each record half of an extremely high sample rate (192K), and transfer the tracks in series?
