I don't know for your material, but I'm using settings way lower on some
ID calls. I just checked one and it's 40kbps vbr, yet sounds just fine.
Of course for those clips I use mono. That particular sample (bullfrog)
took me 30 seconds to download on a not particularly good modem
connection. It's about 30 seconds in length and 180k. If it were stereo
it would have to be up somewhere around 80kbps or so.
It's going to be hard to do this through a web manager. They won't know
exactly how the clip should sound. When I did mine I kept coming back to
them after several days away to keep my ear from getting trained. Just
like other kinds of sound editing. I played around for a couple months
before putting them up.
Note the clips I have listened to sound just fine. You could probably
shorten the length a bit on some, 90 seconds is a long time for a sample.
