Thanks, everyone. It looks like the consensus is =93The best way to remove =
noise is with your feet,=94 i.e. try and go somewhere quiet to record. I wa=
s lucky enough to get a chance to go out this morning with a respected loca=
l recordist and he showed me a wonderful recording spot not too far away fr=
om where I live that is relatively quiet if you get there early enough (whi=
ch unfortunately meant getting up at 3:30 this morning!). I put a short une=
dited recording of the dawn chorus here: https://soundcloud.com/jcharleshol=
t/long-canyon

Nick, I didn=92t realize the price listed at micbooster.com included shippi=
ng to the U.S. That=92s very reasonable, and as soon as I can sell my BSM-9=
s on eBay I plan to order a matched pair. I=92m sure some type of array is =
in my not-too-distant future as well. Thankfully my wife is very patient. ;=

you might best start by looking through the archives of this group. A few=
years ago, there was a post with a link to a legal and free copy of Adobe =
Audition 3.0. Hopefully, it still might work or another link may exist if y=
ou search for it. You might also look at Audacity (I haven't tried it.)

yers from Sony, although I confess I'm not fond of the workflow. The nicest=
part of RX (IMO), is the Deconstruct module and you'll have to buy the Adv=
anced version to get it ($$$). Also, you get caught up in a rather expensiv=
e and sometimes senseless 'upgrade' scheme.

nts with stereo arrays first. For the price of RX Advanced, you could get t=
he EM172's, play with arrays, pay for the fuel to get to a quiet-ish place =
and learn some really useful stuff. --Better to make good recordings than =
