I tried both single capsules and double capsules. I tried using the LS-11 P=
IP and a battery box. I tried the PCM-M10 because it has higher input imped=
ance than the LS-11 (and the impedance of the EM172 is very high). I spent =
hours and hours chasing the best possible noise performance. In the end, I =
couldn't hear any difference, or the differences were so minute as to be me=
aningless even in my quietest recording locations. Others might have been a=
ble to hear a difference, but I couldn't.

Hi Peter,

The noise performance of the EM172 depends on both the pip voltage and the =
input impedance of the recorder, there is discussion of this in the micbuil=
ders yahoo group, this graph in particular is most interesting, I am not su=
re of its origin but someone has done a lot of work on it.
