It is not ideal for nature recording, but I managed to get some nice recordings and it is a great utility mic. It's the mid-side version of the MKH 416. Most of the recordings in this playlist were done with the 418 going straight to a Sound Devies 702. https://soundcloud.com/wirerecordings/sets/costa-rica-recordings I've recently upgraded my field kit, and the 418 is not seeing much use.
