Most importantly, I have learned to enjoy what others would call "noise". I=
have composed with sounds from microwave ovens, refrigeration units, traff=
ic, road repair machinery, and electromagnetic spectra. This *is* our natur=
al world. Coming to terms with this fact is essential to enjoying our acous=
tic environment.=0D

Good point, it's possible to come to terms with noise to some extent. I liv=
e a kilometre from a major freeway and a petrochemical complex. The roar an=
d various other noises rarely cease, if ever. But if one examines and under=
stands the noises, it helps. For example, occasionally a chemical reaction =
goes a bit faster than expected, and there's a thump that shakes the window=
s as excess gas is ignited on the release flare. I later hear some other re=
sidents put their kids in the car and left in panic.=0D

That said, there are limits. I'm especially annoyed by nearby tyre noise. I=
t masks other sound and you can barely hear yourself think.=0D
