<<Maybe I'll forget about the star quad cables for now and go with the stan=
dard mic cables at around 25' - 30'.>>
I have had RF issues when using Star Quad as a 2 channel cable in urban set=
tings, with certain non-transformer based mic/preamp combinations. I no lon=
ger do that. Other nature recordists report excellent results with Star Qua=
d as a stereo cable in non-RF intensive field conditions. Star Quad is inte=
nded as mono cable. Use for stereo is outside the intended design.
<<From the feedback I've been getting it seems like the sound quality won't=
be effected whatsoever by the 25' to 30' length.>>
You can run balanced mic lines for several hundred feet before you need to =
start concerning yourself with signal losses. Not a problem.
<< And besides the standard cables are a heck of lot cheaper. >>
Star Quad is pretty reasonable. Less expensive than a 2 pair multichannel c=
able. With either cable type you still have to make a fanout on both ends. =
Not an issue if you're handy with soldering, probably expensive if you're n=
ot.
