Hi Paul--

The phantom power unit only provides power for the mics. The output
from the unit is still is "mic level" so one still uses the 3.5mm Mic
Input on the M10.

I agree with Paul Jacobson that there's nothing wrong with a AT4022
-> ArtPhantomII -> Sony M10 rig quality-wise or use-wise. Below is a
link to a couple of photo's of Curt Olson's "Art Phantom II Lite"
modification where he has removed the circuit board from the heavy
metal case, soldered a cable with a 3.5mm plug directly, soldered LXR
mic cables directly to the circuit board, removed the four bulky XLR
connectors from the board and wrapped the remainder in black electric
tape. The modification takes some knowledge of xlr and mic cable
connections and some soldering ability, but its something you could
do in the future when you want to bulk down.

A number of people power their Rolls PB224 and Art Phantom units with
a battery "sled" comprised of 10- 1.2 volt rechargeable NiMH
batteries to get well over 12 hours of continuous use. The
rechargeable 9 volt batteries don't last very long.

Unless someone has discovered a work-around, the last time I checked,
Fostex FR2-LE single recordings were limited to 4GB in size. Granted
4GB provides over 6 hours of continuous stereo recording but the M10
is limited only by the capacity of the memory card. Some recordists
enjoy being able to set-up in a promising spot and capture a whole
night or several days. Rob D.
