are there any small mics (perhaps condenser lavalier) which have low self n=
oise?

I will do most of my work with mics on my head. would like to capture the a=
mazing stereo
effect aaron does in his Quiet America project. His says his DSM mics are n=
oisy (he uses a
pre amp with them which I can't afford). And I a Sonic Solutions wind scree=
n head band
(would make DIY version).

A pair of the AT3032s are on order for me, but I want to know if there is s=
ome way I can
make a smaller pair of mics work for all purposes. If not, I'll get the AT3=
Message: 032.

add a better pair of small electret or condenser mics than my SoundProfessi=
onal pair.

SoundProfessionals quit carrying the Sure WL 183 seven years ago. Said they=
 have higher
self noise than the AT 853 which they refer to as CMC -4U.

Need to make the decision on the AT3032 quickly.

Thank you Rob. I'm just now catching on that the mic makes more of a differ=
ence than the
recorder.
