They mention a maximum separation of 14 inches between capsules, & it should be noted that separating cardioid capsules from coincidence necessarily introduces phase cancellation, & eventually, irrational imaging. The separation inherent in the ORTF configuration, about 7 inches or approximately that of the human head, is generally considered the maximum before unacceptable imaging/phase issues take over.
