I also use the lighting tripods. For much the same reason, they can get
up much higher and are cheaper than photo tripods.
Mine reach up about 15', where the SASS can pick up cleaner sound, not
full of the reflections and absorptions close to the ground. Here's what

I machined an adapter fitting to go from the lighting tripod to my SASS.
You can just about make it out in the photo. This particular tripod is
air damped (for lowering) and too big for backpacking, but some of the
others I have would do for that.
I recorded river frogs at that spot in the swamp just to the right of
the track the night before.

Often when I'm out on foray and camping in the truck I'll set up the
tall tripod during the night to see what I can get. Of course I try and
camp in a likely spot. Here's such a night recording, though not
recorded while camping.
