<<<<<<<<<I've just had a listen to these files. It appears that the 16 bit
cowbird file is mono and the
24 bit file is stereo. Perhpas I've made an error, but that is the way they
play for me.

The recordings of the MKH20 have such a drastic difference in backround
noise (i.e. the
tone of the ambience has shifted) that it is impossible to make a accurate
comparison.

I'll try to make my own recordings the next time I get some free time (ha!)
and see if I can
do any better (ha ha!).<<<<<<<<<

There are NOT mono recordings, listen and read it again, they were recorded
with a Telinga stereo dat mic.

The MKH-110 has much more depth to the recordings than the MKH-20's but I
did record both mics with different bit rates, so the comparison is there i=
f
you look for it..

It all depends to on what you are listening to them with? Computer speakers=
?
Studio?

everyone has. I have been sitting back quietly and watching and enjoying th=

discussion
unfold. Now let me stir the pot some more: I'm surprised no one has yet
brought up the afffect of
24 bit recording on stereo image. Some say that the increased resolution
helps in defining
one sides image in relation to the other, thus makeing the stereo image mor=

I am personally tired with this discussion and in my opinion believe there
are a lot less nature recordists on this list than the numbers given. I
agree with Walt, this list has deteriated somewhat. We used to have some
great nature recordists here that have now left us or switched to no e-mail
because of these unnecessary postings from a lot of people who do not get
out there in the field.

But you know, it's only MY opinion.
