Just to confuse everybody one of the new recording methods that shows
promise to be very good is one bit recording....

I'd also suggest for anyone wanting to continue this discussion you take
a break of a month or two and get up to speed on the subject of
psychoacoustics. There is a whole area on the interaction of our brains
with the signals our ears pick up and how our brains decide what we
hear. What we hear is not what our ears pick up.

After all each argument here seems to start with "I hear...". That's
biology, not engineering or experience in how to set a mic to record a
specific musical instrument. It's also psychology.
