This sounds extreme to me, but I believe they are saying that a sufficiently large amount of air between the capsule & the zeppelin boundary would constitute an ambience of its own, thus possibly altering the phase & amplitude localization cues we receive & rely upon to accurately judge distance & direction, in stereo. I think it would be irrelevant in mono. I would imagine it would require an enormous amount of space for this to really be an issue, like a couple feet, but Rycote must have some experience with this to mention it. Scott Fraser |
