Military Surplus Ammo Boxes

Subject: Military Surplus Ammo Boxes

I am building a water proof and shock proof case for power and
recording while canoeing. I am building and planning for a sound trip
this spring that would cover the first 1000 miles of the Mississippi
River by canoe.

I am looking for a recommendation.
I see that the Ammo Boxes have gotten a bit thin over the years.
My 1950's military ammo box is three times the thickness of what I can
currently buy in surplus stores. But the current size is smaller and
I like that.

I am building a water proof box to hold my SD722 as well as two UPS
lead acid batteries. All cable connects will be case mounted to keep
this water proof. Because the box is lighter and not as thick of
metal I need a material to use as a cushion that will heat sink
between the recorder and the box. I can use foam rubber to keep
things aligned but need a flexible pad to form a heat sink between the
recorder and this case. FYI, the SD722 does have heat issues. Anyone
know of a product that has this property?
