Hi Pete-- I'm very sorry to hear of your dilemma. I've been tempted
to try this too, but perhaps asking the computer to handle two
busses/uploads  at once is understandably risky, especially with
precious material involved. My install of SS produces a "do not
interrupt during transfer" warning window which clues me as well.
More and more apps require sole use of drives because they do
directory management like SS. To be safe, when file-writing is
involved with any app, I avoid multi-tasking until I've run some
tests. I wish I had a solution to point you towards. In theory its
possible, but a DIY solution may be a ways off:
