Denis,

 

I think the original reference was to a sheep paddock ruined. In the Crace case it is/was a cow paddock! At least these were the last animals that I saw in the area.

(for those not familiar with the reference, this was said to be a quote from a local farmer, when construction of Canberra was commenced.
