I'm not sure that self-government is to blame. Not that I am a fan of the current mob you have in the ACT Council, or its predecessors, but reflecting on the actions of the Commonwealth Minister for Water Skiing the Feds would have been no better. Apart from the destruction industry being the only effective economic base for the ACT the other issue is that the two political parties are strongly influenced by the developers on the one hand or the CFMEU on the other. Neither of these gives a drat about anything other than maximising the financial welfare of their members. What is needed is a political force that really cares about environmental issues. I tend to agree with Mark that the Greens have not indicated they fill that position.
