The problem is, I think, in a democracy you need a decent choice, you need at least two sides of politics with decent, rational policies. This doesn't seem to happen anywhere very much in world, and certainly not in Australia. Here there seems to be a competition between the two sides of politics as to how many special interest groups can be bribed with public money, and the extent to which the budget is spent on these activities.
