Sun 28 Oct Australian Painted Snipe Sandy Camp Road wetland, Wynnum.
A male foraging in the small, muddy area behind the viewing platform. Great views (the horrible photo was taken from my phone!). [Eds. from a brief review of the photo I'd suggest this bird looks very bright for a male and is probably a female].

Common Sandpiper Kedron Brook Wetlands
Single bird on the south bank of Schulz Canal.

Fri 26 Oct Little Bittern, Spotless Crake, Baillon's Crake, Wandering Whistling-Duck Sandy Camp Road wetlands, Wynnum-Lytton
Female Little Bittern flew from short clumps of reed in water beside the long causeway, late morning; it remained along the causeway. At least 25 Wandering Whistling-Ducks.

Wed 24 Oct Glossy Ibis Ponds In Castle Hill Estate Murrumba Downs
Single birds in ponds that are slowly drying. Murrumba Downs is a suburb of Brisbane approx 25ks out. Glossy Ibis last sighted by me in this area about 3 years ago during drought

Tue 23 Oct Fork-tailed swift Birdsville Billabong
Small flock of 6-10 fork tailed swifts flew over Birdsville Billabong on Monday afternoon (approx 6:30pm). Also saw three brolgas and had great views of +100 flock-pigeons alighting on the water to drink while i was swimming down there.

Painted honeyeater 67km west of Goondiwindi
The Painted Honeyeaters reported on 21 September are still there, close to the highway. Three seen and more heard.

Both species in abundance over and around the lagoon.

Mon 22 Oct Emu Stanthorpe-50km west-Inglewood Rd, SEQld
Maybe not a big deal but I was impressed to see one out here. Pallid Cuckoo near Wyberba also a highlight

Grass Owl, King Quail, Lewin's Rail Kedron Brook Wetlands
One Grass Owl coming in to roost at 5 am with a large rodent in it's talons. Two King Quail flushed from dense vegetation near small creek line. One Lewin's Rail in the open near creek line. Many Brown Quail and one Buff-banded Rail rounded up a good early morning's walk.

Black Falcon Beaudesert Turf Farms
At least 4 and possibly 5 Black Falcons hanging around the turf farms on Allan Creek Rd north-west of Beaudesert. Presumably a pair with fledged young. The birds were easy to observe and seemed to be play chasing each other and some other birds including the local magpies.

Sun 21 Oct Australian Painted Snipe Rosewood Wetlands, Bremer Road
1 female sighted at the far side of lagoon at 9:30 am. Stayed in the open for approx 20 min before retreating into the shade.

Red-kneed Dotterel & White-wnged Trillers Oxley Creek Common
1 Dotterel at Pelican Pond and a total of 5 White-winged Trillers (2 males, also at PP, 2 males & 1 female on the main track 100 meters from the PP turnoff).

Noisy Pitta and supporting cast of Rain Forest Species Lamington National Park (Binna Burra)
Excellent views (and photos) of Noisy Pittas, Logrunners, Paradise Riflebirds, Wonga Pigeons, Bassian Thrushes, Pale Yellow Robins, Green Catbirds, Black-faced Monarchs, Wompoo Fruit-doves etc. in the very dry rain forests. we did only here Lyrebirds today.

Rufous Scrub-bird Lamington National Park (Binna Burra)
Excellent views of a single bird in a new area. The views were great and prolonged with the bird singing in view for 10+ mins! However, the photos don't do the bird or the views justice!

King Quail, Lewins Rail Kedron Wetlands
Several Lewins heard. Up to 5 King Quails - with 3 seen including a stunning male in the open down to a few metres on the main cut path across the grassland area.

Sat 20 Oct Pale-vented Bush-Hen Kalinga Park Clayfield
Despite bushcare people working on the bank, two bush-hens went for a walk out in the open at 9:00 am today. Hopefully we will see some chicks in the future. Also saw 2 buff-banded rail

Red-kneed Dotterel Moggill Wetland
1 on the tiny site in the evening with the Black-fronteds. This is a first for me here. Also Rufous Night-heron.

Wed 3 Oct Black-breasted button-Quail Coastal scrub near surf club, Turtle Way, Millenium Esplanade, Tannum Sands
Single male Black-breasted Button-Quail was observed as it slowly moved through the scrub adjacent to the walking track. Seen at close quarters (approximately 4m). Good views for several minutes (naked eye and binoculars). Numerous platelets throughout scrub areas. Bird then flew across the road to an area of scrub at the foot of a steep slope.
