Cattle Egret (9) In breeding plumage. coromandus Channel-billed Cuckoo

Sun 21 Oct Little Bronze-Cuckoo, Painted Button-quail Tingalpa Creek Wetlands, Chadwell Street, Capalaba West
Two highlights from an intense 90 minutes of birding along the Tingalpa Creek, with a total of 40 species seen / heard. Little-Bronze Cuckoo heard calling. Good views of the Button-quail along the track. This site is where BirdLife Southern Queensland will be holding a bird walk to celebrate Bird Week this Wednesday (23 October) commencing 0730 am. UBD reference 183N5. Well worth coming along!

sightings Sat 20/10 of 1 bird feeding for about 10 mins and then on Sun 21/10 of the pair just sitting for about 30 mins

5 or 6 today.

Kermadec Petrel Southport Pelagic
2 today - a dark and a light intermediate phase. These and Black-bellied Storm Petrels (5-6) were the highlights today.

Baillon's and Spotless Crakes Sandy Camp Rd wetlands, Wynnum North.
5 Baillon's and 4 Spotless Crakes (at least) showing well. A White-winged Triller an added bonus. FYI - the wetlands at Fowler oval nearby is completly overtaken by water plants - no open water - but 3 Latham's Snipe seen on site.

Little Grassbird West Creek Reserve, Toowoomba
Little Grassbird (1) Possibly two. Heard calling from bulrush between Stenner and Spring Streets. After stake-out a couple of good views were obtained.

Fri 19 Oct Pale-vented Bush-hen Kalinga Park, Clayfield
One seen and pair heard calling together 6 am; possibly nesting in long grass on Digger's Lane side. Pair of Buff-banded Rails also seen.

Eastern Grass Owl Kedron Brook Wetlands
Very easily observed female steadily quartering the wetlands pre-dawn (4.30-5.00am). Probably the best way to view this bird if you don't mind the early start. Dive-bombed by young Swamp Harrier at one point. Two Marsh Sandpipers and two Avocets on the now rapidly drying lagoon.

Russet-tailed Thrush Highfields Falls, near Toowoomba
Russet-tailed Thrush (1) Bird alighting in creekbed and proceeded to feed, allowing great views of the finer scalloping on the backside. White outer tail feathers particularly noticeably when it eventually took flight. First official record in the area for approximately two decades.

Bush Stone-curlew (1) Apparently has been at the school most of the day, spending it's time near the glass doors of the canteen and then inside the canteen when the doors are open. Also obseverved standing in a nearby garden Photo taken for ID. Not seen at this site before.

Tue 16 Oct Azure Kingfisher Kalinga Park, Diggers Lane
A pair digging a hole in the banks along the river. Also breeding Brown Goshawk on the nest and a Rufous Night-Heron.

2 birds together this morning plus a third bird calling from the other side of the river.

Mon 15 Oct Australian Painted Snipe Rosewood Lagoon Bremer Road
1 female early this morning (distant - record shot!) as well as 1 Latham's Snipe, 3-4 Cotton Pygmy Geese, 3 Red-kneed Dotterels.

Baillon's and Spotless Crake Emerald Lakes, Carrara
Finally something different with the Baillon's (8) today, a single Spotless Crake showed for a minute or so this afternoon. The Baillon's are showing really well at the moment, anyone nearby with a Camera should take a look!

Sun 14 Oct Flock Bronzewing Boulia-Bedourie
Went searching for Flock Bronzewing over the last week - previously eluded us. None found between Winton and Longreach, none on Winton - Hughenden road and none between Winton and Boulia. Success between Boulia and Bedourie - flock of about 100 84.5 km south of Boulia (0745 hrs) and many thousands 158 km south of Boulia (0945 hrs).
