I probably should have checked this the other day - the Victorian bird atlas
of 1987 notes a small, isolated (probably feral) population of Crested
Pigeons in Healesville (NE of the metro area) - maybe this is the source of
eastern birds in Melbourne?  There were no records in 1987 from the
Gippsland Plains - otherwise suitable habitat.
