Fiona and Peter

I first noticed metropolitan Crested Pigeons when my son was playing school
sport in the Keysborough area 8-10 years ago and have been dutifully
reporting my observations to BOCA for the last few years.

There are a few places in my neighbourhood (Box Hill) where relatively
small flocks (2-10) are present and I recently saw a flock of around 20
birds at La Trobe's Bundoora campus.

BOCA may be able to provide less anecdotal information about the spread of
Crested Pigeons.

Regards

David

I've only lived in Altona for 4 years and been birding for 18 months, so
I can't comment on any long term trends. I'm under the impression that
there were always more of them in Melbourne's western suburbs than in
the east (can anyone confirm that?), but I have noticed a lot more
recently.

I've been seeing several of them in my street daily where I was only
seeing one or two occasionally before. I have also had over a dozen
around my house at times, but had thought that a large area of newly
sown grass in the industrial land behind might have been the reason for
that.
