All, Enough already! It is clear that future power needs will have to be supplied from a MIX of ALL types of power generation. Realistically for the next 100 years we will see the existing predominantly coal-based system move to a mix of over 50% nuclear, with coal reducing to probably under 25% and then the whole raft of others - solar, hydro, wind, tidal, bio-fuel etc. France has moved to this over the past 50 years. Get used to it - there is no free lunch - all have benefits and costs, including progressively higher dollar costs to the consumer. The only hope is that nuclear fusion may eventually become feasible and economic. Graham Buchan |
