After my last pelagic trip, while watching one poor girl be very ill, I did wonder whether first-timers should be advised to play it safe and automatically medicate rather than risk spoiling a day out on the water.  Once you are sick it is usually too late for any action.
 
I medicated on the last trip, not because I had been sick before, but because it had been over 3 years since my last pelagic and I didn't want to find out my constitution had changed whilst on board!
