birding-aus
I am trying to get the bird database for the Desert Uplands area of Central
Queensland (such that it is) up to date and in user-friendly format which
involves cross-referencing geo-referenced sightings provided by the
Queensland Museum with REM names based on the Boles & Chritidis Taxonomy.
2 records are proving particularly problematic and I have been unable to
find references in the usual texts.
1. Can anyone confirm that Lalage tricolor is a former name for the Lalage
suerii (White-winged Triller)? As this record is dated 1966 and from
Clermont I thought it might be too far inland for the Varied Triller??????
2. Synoicus australis queenslandicus (Family: Phasianidae) This one has
really got me stumped as they are a bit short on pheasants in Central
Queensland. At first I thought it might be a former name for the Bustard.
This record is from the 'Natal Downs'(Curtis Dam), a cattle property in the
north-east sector of the Desert Uplands, south of Charters Towers. It was
recorded in 1980 and so is from the 'Joh era' rather than the 'One Nation'
movement which has replaced it.
Any takers?
