What happens on your console terminal? You should see a login prompt 
when the board boots. If you plug-in your terminal after your 
application starts, you might not see the 'login' prompt -- try typing 
'root' and see what happens.

If you don't get any response from the console port, perhaps your 
program is doing something that locks-out stdin nd stdout. Can't help 
you with that type of interaction, because I don't know what your code 
is doing. Why not try a simple LED-flasher loop and see if the console 
behavior changes.

You could telnet to your board and use that console to check running 
processes, and to kill your application, then shutdown Linux and the board.
