hi russel, thanks for responding. the answer is that i do not need to be attached to the console. i wish linux to boot, then run my application which serves as an ascii string command slave on com2. (my console defaults to com1) it's a really simple application. it simply polls com2 for ascii commands, executes them when received, the responds with a response string. that's it. kris From: Russell N. Or is its operation completely independent of the console? For the latter, I am using daemontools. It's open source, and compiles easily.
