If you have a program that operates as designed independently of the 
console (except to start it), then it will run when started at boot 
time. If the program requires a connection to a serial port, then you 
need that connection. But you don't need the console.


My HVAC monitor program flashes the LEDs as a "heartbeat." When I reboot 
the 7250 using the console, the LEDs start flashing, and I get the login 
prompt on the console. If I shutdown, disconnect the console, and then 
power-up the 7250, the LEDs again begin flashing.

I have a 7250 in the mechanical room right now with no console, and my 
program is running 24/7.
