I've already been using this build system for a few months at least. The
first time I used an ebuild to build packages for the TS boards, it was
for jamvm & classpath and that was over a year ago.

The latest jamvm that you can find from me is here:

http://vaiprime.visibleassets.com/~cfriedt/jvmcp_binpkgs

It's a major step forward from the one that TS distributes because it
includes support for generics, enumerations, and the java 5 API.

But be warned that it also requires 'file' from

http://vaiprime.visibleassets.com/~cfriedt/binpkgs/arm-unknown-linux-gnu

and also >=gnu-classpath-0.97.1 (from the jvmcp_binpkgs repo)

The reason that jamvm & classpath are packaged separately is to maintain
the install location on the TS boards in /usr/local/jamvm. Gentoo
installs to a different location by default.

You should have no problem at all using the existing TS linux distro.
The only prerequisite (aside from specific package dependencies) is
basically the libc, and I've gone to some lengths to ensure that they're
compatible.

Cheers,

Chris

PS: you may want to use this script to install jamvm & classpath
http://armboard.visibleassets.com/packages/update_jamvm_and_classpath3.sh
