You can also optionally implement a virtual display connecting over Ethernet, in addition to Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). If you target a standard SDK you can cross compile for any CPU supported by Platform Builder. I am currently working on a very large project porting a hardware/application from vxWorks to WinCE. The bottom line is money. WinCE was analyzed to be more cost effective than vxWorks. The two key savings were related to software license, and sub contractor. The key argument for not using Linux was they have a large pool of Windows experts and didn't want to split things up. To each his own. In regards to porting WinCE to TS-7200, TS-7400, or TS7800: You need to implement a bootloader that understands loading a "bin" file. This is MS format file that include a table of contents etc. Not related to a binary format file such as the MS file extension "nb0". The bootloader needs to understand how to load "bin" files to RAM or Flash. Beyond this the OEM Abstraction Layer (OAL) is tailored to target particular hardware features. For BSP development as a minimum you need a piece of software that can load code into RAM, modify the program counter, and execute. A good JTAG interface is ideal for developing a WinCE BSP. TS-7400 and the TS-7800 do not have JTAG access to the CPU, JTAG is only implemented for CPLD/FPGA programming. I have not looked at the TS-7200, it there a debug interface available on the TS-7200? My services are available to anyone who requires a professional WinCE Board Support Package (BSP). If the demand was high enough I will consider offering a low cost WnCE BSP for each TS board.
