Next suggestions;
What does redboot 'disks' say for the original/working card?
What does Linux say for the card working card versus the
non-working card? I would try fdisk, and try mounting it
under Linux. Given that you used mke2fs, I'm guessing that
you also mounted the card to talk to it ... but maybe
somewhere along the lines dd overwrote the MBR or something
similarly destructive occurred.
