Thanks Peter & Yan for those very useful tips.

I realize I've been viewing the TS/ucLinux system as sort of "high end
microcontroller," when the more practical model is really "low end
computer."

If I go ahead I think I'll put a small LIon battery and trickle
charger on my accessory board, just enough to keep the system alive
through a clean shutdown.
