It does sound like you haven't stripped the module - for something like
that I could quite believe the huge difference being due to the debugging
symbols and whatnot ... I can't quite remember how to use it but "man
strip" would give you some clues. It's quite possible that the makefile is
already set up such that a certain argument will run strip automatically (I
can't check right now - I don't have a copy of the source handy and I'm
sucking internet through a straw at the moment).
