I am looking for 8 channel portable recorder with phantom power.
I am looking to build a 4 binaural rig consisting of 8 mic's would like to =
power them with 48v or pip.
What direction should I consider?

I think there are a number of possible solutions, and it all depends on you=
r budget. =A35,500 - =A36,000 gets you a Sound Devices 688, and there=92s p=
lenty else on the market that could do what you=92re asking. At the other e=
nd of the scale you have this idea of an array of 4 x stereo recorders as m=
entioned by Gerrit, so then you have a set of possibilities for affordable =
recorders. Without use of timecode you=92re looking at sync=92ing with a cl=
apper or similar at the start of the recording (possibly at the end too mig=
ht be useful for a second reference point). In terms of the slippage you mi=
ght get, it depends on the length of the recordings etc but as it=92s all a=
rtifice anyway (unless the timing is critical for scientific measurements f=
or example) then what you=92ll get should be close enough for jazz so long =
as you set up your sample rates the same on all recorders. So, lots of opti=
ons but all budget dependent!

cheers
